Elisha was the great wonder-worker of the Old Testament. Such parallel stories were important to the early Christian community as a demonstration of continuity — showing that Jesus embodied the same power and acted for the same God.

The prayer group is a mix of Lutheran and Episcopalian. It was particularly nice for me because my Meeting is half an hour away, so I can't attend anything during the week.

The Centering Prayer book is so incredibly helpful. I'm going to see about getting a copy of it for my Meeting's library.

What denomination was your friend's prayer group? The method they used sounds like a Quaker bible study [I haven't experienced one myself but have read about them online]. It sounds like a good experience for you, any way.

The book about Centreing Praying looks wonderful!

Thank you so much for writing your feelings down. I have always had you in my prayers but I gues God has answered them in a different way. I really hope you can continue to come and feel comfortable even though it is out of your box so to speak. Love Ruthanne

Thanks for this, too. Often I find myself stopping to recognize how thoroughly interconnected every living thing is--all that is now, and all that has been. In those moments, I feel the most intense awe and warmth flooding through me. For me, that interconnection is deeply connected, if not quite identical to the Divine. Thank you for expressing that feeling of awe here.

Thanks for this. I struggle with these questions myself, almost daily. How do I pull away from treating activities in my life as more than a means to an end, things to rush through to get on to the next activity? I know I'm missing something when I let myself live this way. Yet it can be a struggle to change. I came across an interesting blog post by evangelical Quaker pastor Wess Daniels on this same issue earlier today; if you have any interest in reading his take on it, it can be found here:
